Hiking

Escaping the daily routine step-by-step

we all love to go wandering

We lace up our hiking boots all year round. After all, we are a member of “Hiking Hotels” (Link Qualitätskriterien), something we are very proud of. So that you are certain to find the most beautiful places and lookout points, hiking here is very much an affair for the owners themselves: Christian and Willi Daberer will accompany you personally every week, as will our herb expert, who knows – almost – everything about wild herbs and medicinal plants, and is glad to share her knowledge with you. Tell us what you would like to experience, and we will put together your very own customized hiking route, give you tips, and provide you with information, recommendations, hiking maps and equipment. Tailored to the weather conditions, your abilities and the amount of time you can budget.

in the white season

When the snowflakes fall, we look forward to winter hikes with you, to refreshment breaks at cozy huts, as well as visits to farmers and producers who gladly share their knowledge.

We set out on winter hikes once or twice a week, depending on the weather and snow conditions.

in the green season

Practically nothing can keep us indoors: From May until October, we offer three guided hikes a week, the most extensive of which include a meal break at area huts or hill farms, or at least a good organic snack in our rucksacks.

We will take you along the magnificent Carnic High Trail, the Gailtal High Trail, to friendly mountain huts and hill farms between June and September, across the most beautiful high meadows when alpine flowers are in full bloom during June and July, entice you across the green border with Italy – where we enjoy snacks at Italian mountain huts and country inns, and explore with you the multiple-award-winning and hugely fascinating Carnic Alps Geopark. Are you a little out of practice? That’s good, too. We have something in our program for every physical condition and every goal.

And for all alpine hikers and climbers, the mountaineering village of Mauthen, just 5 km away, is an ideal setting. For your guided rock-climbing tour, we are always happy to make arrangements for a mountain guide.

Here with us, there is always something going on. In the valley, and even more in the higher regions. From early spring in the mountains, when everything begins to sprout, to our mild, sunny autumn, which bathes the region in iridescent colors.

Spring – This is when things get started, the sun licks the last snows from the hilltops, there is babbling, murmuring, buzzing and sweet fragrances. Now is the time to marvel at the first blossoms. A time for extended hikes in the valley and further up the hillside. A time, with each passing springtime day, to venture further and further up into the ever more snowless regions. June is famous for its magnificent flowers, when the Mussen, an orchid paradise, and the Mauthner Alm are transformed into a colorful sea of blossoms. Also an ideal moment for palate-pleasing hikes in the valley, either on foot or by bicycle, since the first huts have already opened their doors.

Summer – The air is aromatic and the sun powerful, now – from June to September – is the season of huts and alpine pastures. The huts, both here and across the border with our Italian neighbors, have their doors wide open, inviting guests to set out on hikes through the hills and discover the delicious world of alpine cooking.

Autumn – The hustle and bustle of summer is past, the sun glows a radiant gold. The horizon is deeper, and your eyes glide longingly across the peaks and valleys. Now, every hiker has a trail or path to themselves, and looks forward to the vivid display of color which autumn brings – and in many villages, we encounter an array of country fairs.
